Ecological Surveying

Our licensed ecologists undertake protected species surveys (bats, birds, great crested newts, dormice, otter and water vole), habitat assessments, ecological impact appraisals, and on-site wildlife compliance monitoring to support informed decision-making.
Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)

Our licensed ecologists provide ECoW services to support productions through all stages of filming and event delivery. We oversee works on-site to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, safeguard protected species and habitats, and manage ecological risks in real time.
Location Selection & Risk Avoidance

Our risk avoidance services include desk-based ecological assessments, protected species constraints mapping, and habitat sensitivity evaluations, helping production teams avoid delays, reduce costs, and comply with environmental obligations.
Training

Ecotainment provides structured sustainable film production training programmes to equip productions and events with the knowledge and skills required to implement green production practices. Delivered by Chartered professionals and experienced industry experts.
Drone Assessments

Our licensed drone operators use state of the art thermal drones to undertake assessments and monitoring for wildlife.
This includes bat emergence surveys, nesting bird and dormouse checks ahead of potential disturbance.

FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
With a background as a Chartered Ecologist, Joseph Shepherdson (CBiol, MCIEEM, MRSB) has worked as a Producer/Director with the BBC Natural History Unit and the Academy Award-winning Off The Fence, combining ecological expertise with creative storytelling. His work spans feature documentaries, television, and consultancy, focusing on conservation and embedding ecological best practice into film, drama, and festival production.
Joseph is pioneering a new approach to sustainability in the entertainment industry, helping productions reduce environmental impact while integrating ecological principles into every stage of storytelling. Passionate about practical, creative, and long-term change, he bridges science and culture to ensure conservation is not just discussed, but actively practiced on set and beyond.
India Rayner

HEAD OF NATURE RECOVERY
India is the Head of Nature Recovery at Ecotainment Ltd. She is a Chartered Natural Capital specialist (C.Env, C.WEM) with over seven years’ experience in the environmental and sustainability sectors. She has a strong foundation in natural capital and nature-based solutions. India’s expertise covers strategic land use planning, working with stakeholders across sectors, and applying national policy to achieve long-term environmental outcomes. India is passionate about making sure resources are used effectively to create real impact.

ECOLOGIST
Harry Reed is Ecotainment Ltd’s lead field ecologist, specialising in UK protected species. With over a decade of hands-on field experience, he combines deep ecological knowledge with a talent for turning complex survey data into clear, actionable insights.
Harry’s expertise spans strategic species monitoring, habitat assessment, and supporting the team in translating ecological findings into practical guidance. HR and HEAD of PARTNERSHIPS
Samantha Green brings over 25 years of experience across HR, logistics, and project management. She has a passion for creating positive workplace cultures, developing people, and driving meaningful change through engagement, sustainability, and training initiatives.

Abi Thomas

DRONE OPERATOR
Abi is an experienced Drone Operator whose TV credits include filming for Asia, narrated by Sir David Attenborough. She has flown in some of the world’s most challenging environments, from Arctic sea ice and high-altitude mountain ranges to dense forest canopies and urban structures. Skilled in both cinematic aerials and FPV drone work, Abi brings precision, creativity, and technical expertise to Ecotainment Ltd.
